One year ago I went away for a week just by myself and it was one of the most important things that I have ever done for myself. I will share with you why I did it, what happened and why I advise you to do the same.
You are the most important person in your life and that´s how you should treat yourself.

In the summer of 2020, I had to take some time off work due to burnout. After being at home for 2 weeks already I realized that I cannot switch off at home. I decided to go away for a week to be by myself. I had never been by myself for a week away from home without any plans or activities, so this was truly a first.
But I knew staying at home was not working and I needed to do something else.
It was just not an option to stay in this situation of burnout and to go back to work as the same person. It was just not an option.
I went without any plans or activities booked. I just took some books, online courses, and pen and paper to journal. My day started with a long meditation, enjoying the morning on the balcony, breakfast, going on a hike for about 2 hours, and enjoying nature, I would sit a lot and just look at nature. In the afternoons I would watch a mindset course from Joe Dispenza (read this book from Dr. Joe Dispenza to get the same knowledge), journal, practise yoga, go to the sauna and read a book, have dinner and then early to bed. I did not have a lot of contact with home and I would not become friends with anybody there. It was all about just being by myself.
“In that week, I had so many realizations, bigger and smaller ones.”
The biggest one for me was what to focus on in my business. I was mulling this over for a month already and I got the realization already in the first few hours of even being there. Just for this realization, it was worth it.
On the walks or just sitting outside in silence I was able to start listening to my inner voice and have a conversation with myself. I was able to appreciate nature much more because I was by myself and not distracting myself with music, a podcast or an audiobook while walking. These were all “being in the present” exercises that gave me recovery, clarity, new ideas and thoughts.
The most powerful thing I did was to meditate. I would do about 2 sometimes 3 meditations per day. These were guided meditations and they really helped me to work through some of my beliefs and through unwanted emotions. I journaled a lot which is a great habit as it opens the doors to our subconscious mind. You can get new perspectives, new ideas and realizations by putting your thoughts and emotions on paper.
After that week I went back home and built a lot of my practises like meditation, journaling and being with myself more into my daily routine. 2 weeks later I went back to work and everything was different. I was able since then to have more of these moments by myself in my life but I would not have been able to understand what that actually means or how it benefits me if it were not for the experience of that week.
I know now how powerful it is to be with yourself for a dedicated time without the usual distractions. It is not easy to make the time or to get away from the family and your responsibilities but foremost you have a responsibility to yourself to feel good and to be mentally healthy.
“It´s like they say on in an emergency on aeroplane: Put the mask on yourself first before helping others.”
If you feel good and you have access to your abundant energy, you are so much more helpful to others. And let me tell you, so many things that you saw before as an issue or that triggered you, just magically disappear.
Think about it! If you want something to shift fundamentally in your life, I truly believe that being with yourself, alone and away, will move you a huge step further on your journey. If you cannot make it a week, try to make it 2 or 3 days and don´t try to distract yourself during your time away. Try your best to truly be with yourself.
I am doing this now minimum once per year and I can’t wait to go the next time in anticipation of what kind of huge mindset shift I am going to experience.
I would love for you to have the same experience.
