Our topic for today is money, money, money. Money in its truest form is energy like a calorie of a meal or a watt of electricity. But the relationship we have with money is so much bigger. So let’s go on a discovery journey and see what kind of stories and beliefs you have about money.

This episode is going to be more of a self-coaching exercise for you. I am going to ask you a few questions and you have a chance to check in with yourself what your answers are when it comes to money. I am going to share with you what some of my answers have been in the past or what they are today. And I am sharing more about money and it being abundant even if it quite often does not feel like it. So let’s get started.
On a scale from 0 to 10 where 0 is very poor to 10 is fantastic, how do you rate your relationship with money?
Take a moment to reflect on it and chose a number that feels right for you. If you want to, you could even write it down somewhere and check back in in a couple of months to see if it has improved.
I have done a deep dive into my money mindset about 8 months ago and back then I rated my relationship with money at 6. Now I would rate it an 8. I have consciously worked on my money mindset for the last year and unravelled a lot of money stories and beliefs that I collected over the length of my life.
I consciously try to unpick all of the old thinking about money and try to implement new thinking into my conscious and unconscious mind. And I am glad to see that it has improved already. So I hope that after this episode you gained some knowledge and insights that you can apply to your life, too, to improve your relationship with money. Well, if it does need some improvements, of course.
Now that you rated your relationship with money, what is your intention around money, what do you wish for, and how do you want your relationship with money to look like?
How do you want to interact with money? Something is probably coming to your mind about what you would like to improve in your money relationship. We all have something that comes to our mind when we think about money as it plays such a big role in our society, in how humanity created its existence. So what is coming to your mind that you wish for when it comes to money? If you are interested in improving your money mindset, this can be your intention, your goal to move towards in this growth journey of yours. Again, make a note of it when you can and check back in in a few months’ time to see if you were able to achieve it.
I personally want money to flow easily to me and through me. For me that means that money comes to me in whatever way and that I like to spend it as well and help other people with it through either hiring them, buying services or giving it to charity or research. I have been working on being a better spender for most of my life. I grew up learning to save money.
That’s is a great place to be in to feel safe – but it can be very limiting as well. So I had to learn to spend it as well and not just hoard it. As money is energy, it needs to flow like energy. If I just keep saving and not spending, there is no flow of money in my life which means as well that I cannot increase the money in my life. I have gotten better at it over the last decade and have focused on it even more over the last year. But there is still room for improvement.
I just shared with you that I have learned to save money in my childhood and then I moved on from that and learned how to spend it as well.
What has your money story been so far?
Asking yourself this question and going back to see what your story has been in the past is very eye-opening. This is where you can find a lot of money beliefs. You can investigate where your current relationship with money is coming from. Who you have got it from if there might have been any events in your past that created your story around money and influenced it. If you are willing to go and look into your past, you are able to let go of certain beliefs that might now be standing in your way.
One of the biggest beliefs I had for most of my life and I am still working on letting it go is: To make money you have to work hard. That is a very common money belief. But it is just a belief. It is not a fact or a law of nature. Because there are people that earn a lot of money or have a lot of money and work minimal hours or even none. So the statement that you have to work hard in order to make money is not universally true and therefore just a belief. And we know we can let go of beliefs if we wish to.
I love to look back and check in with what kind of money beliefs we have grown up with. Have you already found one?
Let me give you some typical money beliefs that we might have grown up with: “Money does not grow on trees.” That’s a good one. Or “You need money to make money.” Or an even stronger one is: “Money is evil.” If you have for example problems with keeping your money, you might have a belief like this: “Money is there to spend.” And if you are struggling with attracting money into your life you might have grown up with these beliefs: “My family has never been rich. Or Either rich or happy, you can’t have it both.”
All of these are beliefs that if they sit deep inside of us have a direct impact on our money relationship now. Even if it was a long time ago that you heard somebody say it, it could still influence you now and limit you from having or bringing more money into your life.
Another area where you can observe yourself is what kind of thoughts and feelings you have when you see rich or wealthy people. Maybe when you see them on TV or in real life, what kind of thoughts do you have? You might be surprised by how you judge or think about wealthy people. And if you have these kinds of thoughts and beliefs about wealth, then you self-sabotage yourself by not attracting money. Because you don’t want to be a selfish rich person, right?
If you are serious about improving your money mindset, take the time and write down all of the beliefs you have about money.
Look back at what you heard your parents say about money or other people in your life. And keep collecting evidence in your daily life. Every time you see money or wealth, check in with yourself about what comes up. Are these thoughts serving you or not? Is it time to let them go? This is the most powerful thing you can do to improve your money mindset which of course has a direct impact on you attracting more money into your life. (Episode 42 and Episode 6)
Our relationship with money is created out of the experience we have with money. That does not mean that this is what it truly is. Everyone has a different relationship with money depending on how they experienced it so far. So it’s clear that money cannot be all these different things but it is something more fluid, flexible, malleable and for each person individually. We think money is physical and set in stone, hard to get. But that’s not true for everyone so it can as well not be true for you if you chose to.
Everything in this world is energy and so is money. Money is energy and like energy, it’s infinite and abundant. Money flows like energy. and it can flow to you and through you, or you can repel it or stop the flow of money energy. It’s up to you and your thinking about money that influences this energy flow.
Until a year ago I always believed that money comes mostly just from one place, the one you work at. So there is really just one way I can make money, which is by being employed and being paid by my employer. Sure there are some exceptions like a lottery win or an inheritance but generally, I believed that the only way I can receive money is through working for someone. And because this is what I believed it was as well my reality.
At the same time that I was earning already enough money to have a great life, I always had higher aspirations and was focused on increasing my salary constantly. But you remember the other belief that I had? That you have to work hard to make money? What these beliefs together meant for me is that with every promotion or salary increase I believed I had to work harder and longer hours, and become a more efficient worker to give even more value to the company I worked for. And of course in the end that was partly why I ended up burned out.
Money is a concept that we humans created. We use it to give our society and our way of living a structure. We use it to assess something of its value and to exchange goods and services.
Over time money has become a leading force in our world. We associate so much with money and give it more and more power in our lives. Even though it is energy and abundant, we believe that it is matter and limited. And by creating these beliefs, we let money rule us.
But it does not have to stay like that. You can change your money story going forward. You can create a new money story.
Ask yourself why do you want more money?
Be clear about what you can do with it, what are the feelings that you want to have with what you are buying with that money? There is always a feeling behind it. Maybe you want to buy your favourite car because you know how much you will enjoy driving it every day. Maybe you want to move to a certain place because you know that’s where you can be happy.
When I now want to attract something in my life especially when it has to do with money, I check in to see what the feeling is that I want to create with it. I caught myself a few times already thinking that I wanted something but I was not able to link it to an elevated emotion like joy, happiness or love. I tried my best but I know if I cannot link it to a higher emotion then it is not what I truly want or need in my life.
So I let it go or I adjust my goal or wish. If you listened before to a few of my manifestation episodes then you know that for you to manifest something in your life, you need to bring up the emotion that it will make you feel. So always ask yourself what is the emotion that I will feel when I can buy or afford this?
And when you find the emotion, can you create these feelings already in your life now? Can you feel more of it already today to attract the money into your life? If you want to be more abundant in your life, can you already feel abundant with what you have today? What is already abundant in your life that you can think about to bring up the feeling of abundance.
And one last tip for you is to create a money affirmation in your life. The same as we can unravel our limiting money beliefs, we can replace them and install new money beliefs inside of us. For most of my adulthood, I had the money affirmation: I always have more than enough money. I think I created it about 20 years ago and it has always been my number 1 money affirmation.
It probably had to work against other limiting money beliefs in my subconscious but it did a pretty good job. I always had enough money in my life. Even when it was not a huge amount it was always enough for what I needed. I was never missing money, so I can say that this affirmation really worked well for me.
So what kind of money belief would you like to install into your program?
Here are a few examples that you can pick from:
Create your own money affirmation for your own individual situation. The words need to sound like you, so you will remember them. So make it work for you. And have fun with it. Remember money is energy, money is infinite, money is abundant. So start attracting it into your life, if it’s not already there.
A book I can highly recommend is by Denise Duffield-Thomas: Get Rich, Lucky Bitch! I started my money journey with this book and it blew my mind. I joined Denise’s Money Bootcamp to keep working on my money mindset but start with reading her book!
