Have you ever considered creating an evening routine or a morning routine for yourself? If so, this episode is perfect for you. I will share with you my number 1 tool to use as a daily routine and why I suggest it. Let’s find out.
Maybe you are like me always thinking that you need better routines in your day. Does that sound familiar to you? That inner critic that we carry around inside of ourselves always reminds us to be better, have better habits and improve ourselves constantly.
I am letting go of thoughts like that as they are limiting me. Just ask yourself, who says that I have to have better routines in my day? Is there a god of daily routines that writes the law on those? No, so I am letting go of that constant criticism or judging of myself for not having a stable morning or evening routine. And of course, I invite you to do the same.
At the same time, it is fantastic to build routines and habits into your day that help you grow, help you have a better day and make you feel better. I think we can all agree on that.
At this time in my life, my good habits are spread all over my day and are very much flexible at what time of the day they happen. But that is easier for me to do as I have my own business and I can do throughout the day whatever I want.
So you might be searching for a morning or evening routine as you are working during the day and you want to have something that works along with it. So I fully understand that need and that’s why I create this episode today to talk about a great way to start your day or to end your day.
Before I share with you my number 1 tip for a morning or evening routine, let’s create some clarity around why you have the desire to build a morning or evening routine into your life. There are so many benefits to having a daily routine around things that are important to you so you actually get them done.
For example, if you want to do daily exercise and create a habit of reading more, you can create a 1 hour morning routine where you read for 30 minutes and then exercise for 30 minutes. Whatever is important to you, brings you joy or you want to create a habit, by doing it straight away in the morning you make sure that you get it done.
And having an evening routine has lots of benefits, too, but they might be different to the morning routine. An evening routine is really good to help you sleep better and be more rested the next day. Having a daily practice in the evening can help you balance out and process the day you had and harmoniously close the day.
As you can see building daily routines is really helpful for creating habits, looking after your physical and mental health, improving your fitness, or creating the space for certain things that help you grow or that you just enjoy.
One thing that I want to call out is to still be kind to yourself. It’s not always possible to follow your usual morning or evening routine and you want that to be ok with that. So please don’t use such a routine to control yourself, judge yourself or beat yourself up when you are not able to follow it for a day. If you put too much pressure on yourself you might just not even get started with creating one or you give up pretty quickly. So be kind to yourself.
I am going to suggest one particular practice to you for a reason. As I mentioned before you can put into your morning or evening routine whatever you want and it should be flexible as well. Don’t think you decide on one routine now and that’s what you have to do for the rest of your life.
And if you currently do not have a morning or evening routine, then I suggest you start with one and not both unless you feel very good about it. Again, I don’t want you to be overwhelmed and then do neither of those. So start with what works better for you, either a morning routine or an evening routine.
So my suggestion is to meditate as part of your routine. And of course, any kind of meditation is good but I will suggest a certain kind of meditation to you and I explain why.
So let’s start with your morning. Most people wake up in the morning, not thinking anything, not feeling anything, but as soon as they wake up and come to their senses, they rush to think and feel something so they remember who they are. But most of the time in their mind they go to their problems, or the to-do lists for the day, or worries about the future. Because these are familiar to them, they had them before, and they practised them well, so by repeating them they remember who they are. Just reflect for a second. What do you do when you come to your senses first thing in the morning? What are your first thoughts when you wake up?
Would you agree with me that it’s a good idea to not think about your problems, worries and to-do-list first thing in the morning? And rather set an intention for the day on who we want to be. How do you want to show up during the day? Who do you want to be so you enjoy yourself more?
That’s what I suggest to meditate on first thing in the morning. Set an intention for the day so you know that you mindfully create your day and not just live it on autopilot.
And the good news is that I, surprise, surprise, have a meditation to guide you through this process of setting daily intentions. Yes, how coincidental, right? This meditation helps you to get to your operating system where you can set an intention and for you to visualize and practice how your day is going to look and feel.
And then we have the evening routine where I suggest you meditate on the day that you just experienced. This is a great time for you to reflect on the day, celebrate yourself and feel grateful for everything you want to feel grateful for. And if something happened during the day that could have gone better, it’s a great way to reflect on how you would respond or behave next time and literally practice it while you are in meditation.
When you are in a meditative state, you are closer to your subconscious mind, your operating system, so you can program yourself to think, act and feel in certain ways. And yes, as you can probably already guess, I have an evening meditation for you to guide you through this process, too.
You can find both of these meditations on YouTube for you to use every day if you want to. They even come in 2 different lengths depending on how much time you want to spend on your meditation.
When I want to create a new habit, I love to do something for 30 days. That does not mean always that I create a solid habit in that time, but it’s a great start for me to challenge myself but not overdo it by saying I will do this now every day for the rest of my life.
So give it a go for 30 days to create a solid morning or evening routine. Choose just one of those so you can be more intentional in your life. And the cool thing with these meditations is that you can reprogram your subconscious mind for other habits that you might want to create – while creating this meditation habit. So you even get 2 for 1 or even 3 for 1.
And I am not even going to mention all the other benefits that meditating for 30 days gives you – because that would be too much for this episode. But if you are interested to find out, I have quite a few episodes on that topic of why meditating is so beneficial.
