This episode is about ENERGY. What do I do on a daily basis to refuel my batteries? That’s what I am sharing with you today. Keep with me here if you’d like some more energy in your life.
I take you behind the scenes of my life on how I raise my energy levels every day. For probably about a decade I struggled with my energy levels not being good enough. I had no idea what I was doing wrong and I had no clue on how to fill them up effectively. I thought that a vacation every 6 months should do the trick – and obviously, it didn’t. You can probably relate to that.
So why do I want to talk about energy with you in the first place? I’ve got 2 reasons.
I had burnout about 3 years ago and the years before I accepted that I was burned out were the lowest and hardest in my life. And I don’t wish this on anybody and certainly not on you. But studies show that by now around half of the workforce has been burned out minimum once before. Shocking numbers, right? From my own experience, I know how it feels to be burned out. The constant stress, worries and never truly feeling relaxed or happy.
So I ask myself: Where is this going to end? Most of our illnesses are already stress-related these days but now we have half of the workforce that is burned out. What’s going to happen to all of these people that are living in constant stress and survival? I decided a few years ago to make this my mission. I want everyone who is burned out to learn how to overcome burnout once and for all. And to experience a life full of joy and peace which you can find on the other side of burnout. And you might not even think or believe that you are burned out. Don’t worry if this does not resonate with you. It’s just one way of describing a life full of hassle, stress, overwhelm and no centeredness, joy and peace. If this sounds more like your life, then this episode is for you.
The second reason is that I am creating a program in which I collect all of the knowledge, lessons, learnings, challenges and mistakes of the last 3 years that allowed me to leave burnout behind. All the information and tools that helped me to turn my health and life around combined in one life-changing program.
It took me 3 years to learn and experience everything that helped me to change into the person that I am today. The influences on this change journey range from neuroscience, biology, and behavioural science to spirituality, universal laws, meditation and emotional health.
I don’t want you to go through the same 3-year process and wait that long to make that change in your life, to overcome a habit or diagnosis or to fulfil your life desires and dreams. I want you to get all the knowledge and tools much faster, get the support to apply them straight away into your life and therefore get quicker results. That’s why I created the Energy Academy which encompasses everything you need to move your health and wellbeing back into balance. That’s when you are in the right position to change anything in your life.
When I started to build the Energy Academy program, I sat down and forced myself to look back at every single step I took to accept the situation and make the necessary changes to recover from burnout once and for all. And I truly mean once and for all. I know now too much to ever burn out again. Sure, I have not changed all of my behaviour and beliefs around who I am but enough to know that I won’t go down this road again. I will never let it get that far!
Over the last 3 years, I changed into a completely different person. I don’t even remember being the person that was burned out. I don’t have the emotions anymore inside of me that remind me of who I am as a burned-out personality. The connection to that person has been broken.
Since then I have applied all of this knowledge and the tools to other areas of my life that I wanted to change. For example, my body image and the negative self-talk that I habituated. Or that I am not good enough to run a successful business due to the limiting beliefs I collected in my childhood. Or the emotional addictions to guilt and shame that I was not aware of. And how can you change something that you are not even aware of?
That’s the cool thing about all of this! You can apply it to anything in your life. Once you know and you start applying this, you begin to see the changes happening in your life. And it’s going to be your proof that this works. You then don’t want this magic to end. Why would you? You find the next part of your life to apply it to.
To bring all this information together in one program, I looked at my life and tried to understand on a deeper level how I treat, refuel and manage my energy. And I realized that I live by 3 energy areas that create a holistic energy system. All of the different parts carry and complement each other. If you just focus on one part, you can make some changes to your energy. But over time the other neglected parts will overpower this progress and bring you back to your starting point or worse.
And I am not talking about things like nutrition, sleep or exercise. There is enough information out there about these topics. My 3 energy areas are not so often spoken about. It’s sadly not something we learn at school but we should. This knowledge is much more important to your overall and lasting health. Once you master this information and apply it in your life, your nutrition, your sleep and any exercise will fall into place. You will suddenly be able to make the changes in these areas that you might have tried making for decades.
So let’s go through each Energy Area together. The first one is our Spiritual Energy. And with that, I describe the connection we have to something greater than our body and mind. Realizing that we are an Identity which experiences life in this 3D reality and at the same time we are something so much bigger and more divine. And that we can be more connected to this greater power which I call my Higher Self.
It’s been just 2 years since I had my first experience where I consciously connected with my Higher Self. I have a full episode and a meditation about how to connect with your Higher Self if you want to find out more. That’s when the growth of my Spiritual Energy began. I know now that it has always been there. There is never a moment where your Higher Self is not there to guide you. But if you don’t know, how can you listen to those messages?
Developing the knowledge and using the tools to strengthen my Spiritual Energy helped me to have more clarity in my life: Who I am, what my purpose is and what next steps to take towards my vision. The greatest gift in this Energy Area is to distinguish between the voice of my Ego aka my identity and my Higher Self. Now I know if I make decisions, set goals and behave from my Ego or my Higher Self.
And that has a huge impact on my energy levels. Previously I was living probably 99% from my Ego. No surprise that I was burned out and no surprise that so many other people are burned out, too. Through this work, I was able to create relationships with my Ego and my Higher Self and strike a healthier balance between them. Which means I am much more aware and connected to who I am and what my identity is. And at the same time, I am connected to my higher power and use this divine guidance to follow my heart. It is truly magical being connected to your Higher Self and receiving messages that provide you with so much love and clarity.
On to the next Energy Area which is our Mental Energy. This is where we decide what we create in our lives. In comparison to all other species on this planet, we humans can change our minds, we can decide, we can reason and we can use our will to take a different path. Most of us believe that we make changes by using our conscious mind, the one we use when we are awake. But how has this been working out for you? Has every change you ever wanted to make worked out nicely? Or have there been times when you failed, you didn’t follow through or you gave up?
The reason for that is that your conscious mind is 5% of your total mind and 95% sit in your subconscious mind. Now imagine your 5% of your conscious mind willing a change against the 95% of your subconscious mind that has not been informed about this change. That’s why willpower and motivation don’t last when you want to make a significant change in your life. you need to work with your subconscious mind and for that, you need to learn how it works and how to speak to it.
Can you imagine what it does to your energy levels when you finally learn this? All this wasted energy to try to make changes with the 5% that you are aware of. But you are unknowingly self-sabotaging all your efforts by not making the changes in the right place, in the programming of your subconscious mind.
Learning this has changed my life, the energy that I have available daily and my overall emotional health. I stopped trying to change my outer world and started to change my inner world where it really counts. And that has brought a huge release of energy, peace and relief into my life.
Over to the last Energy Area which is the Physical Energy. And when I talk about our physical energy, again I don’t mean energy sources like food, water, sleep or movement. I talk about the physical processes going on in your brain and your body. This Energy Area covers your mental and emotional health. It’s about neuroscience to learn how your brain works so you can make it work for you. And it’s about the chemical and hormonal processes in your body that are directing your emotional health. It’s about the human science of our behaviours and habits linked to our thoughts and feelings that we are not even aware of.
You don’t have to become a doctor to understand your inner world and how you have become who you are today. I have taught this part in another program many times before and students have been surprised by how quickly they get the information about their brain and body and how immensely impactful this is on their lives. It is the most eye-opening and inspirational knowledge you can ever obtain and it’s based on science.
Now that I understand what emotions are, what they do to me and how I can work with them (and not against them) I am obsessed with my emotional health. The biggest changes in my life over the last few years have come from raising my emotional energy. For me, that means letting go of the emotions of memories stuck in my body. Undoing addictions to certain emotions that I just don’t want to feel anymore. And by removing these weights on my shoulders, by untying the knots in my stomach and resolving the lumps in my throat, I can feel the emotions that we are supposed to be feeling more Love, peace, joy, harmony, appreciation, love for life, worthiness, freedom.
Who doesn’t want to feel more joy, love and peace in their life? And believe me when I say that the way towards that is via the neuroscience and biology of your brain and body.
These are the 3 areas that I leverage to increase my energy levels and joy in my life daily. I might not work with each of these areas every single day. I rather focus each day on the area that needs it the most. What can I work on today to bring more joy and energy to my life? And every day it’s something different and the experience is new and unique. This is a never-ending life journey. But once you are on it, you don’t want it to end. You want to keep going because it makes you feel better, be more aligned to who you truly are and lets you have the most magical experiences in your life.
