Have you ever asked yourself the question: Who am I? And then scrambled for an answer and probably couldn’t find a satisfying one? That is perfectly normal and was exactly my experience, too. I am sharing with you today what this question is all about and why you have it in the first place. You’ll be surprised.
The deep question: Who am I? is one of the first signs of awakening. When this question pops up in your head, you are waking up from your life. Like waking up in the morning and it’s this first moment when you open one eye slightly.
And you’ll surprise yourself by asking this question, especially if it’s for the first time. You might even be stumped by this question as you struggle to either answer it or find out where it’s even coming from.
In the mornings you wake up and you are not yet fully awake. So for a few seconds, you don’t have any thoughts and you are just in this cosy comfy daze before you realize where you are and who you are. You might even be confused for a moment. Similar to when the question: Who am I? pops into your head.
But asking yourself the question Who am I? when you are awake means you are waking up to a new level of consciousness. Something inside of you wants you to wake up further with this question.
Now what can happen, and I know it happened to me, is that this question doesn’t get answered initially. In a sense, you decide to fall back asleep. If you wake up early and you realize you still have an hour before you need to get up, you just drift off to sleep again, quite easily, right?
That’s what a lot of us are doing when we are faced with this question for the first few times. We hit the snooze button and decided to fall asleep again. But once the question is asked it doesn’t really go away. It will pop up again and again until you begin to look for an answer.
The next stage, which you might be in, is that you ask yourself this question more often. Probably paired with other deeper questions like: What is my purpose in life? Is this all there is to it? What am I supposed to be doing with the rest of my life?
This is the stage where these questions keep coming up and where ignorance aka falling back asleep does not work anymore. And the unanswered questions start to make you feel uncomfortable. And I know because I lived through this myself.
The challenge is now that it’s not just the questions that stay unanswered. But on top of that, you begin to feel lost, confused or uneasy. It can feel unsettling to be faced with these questions and not know the answer.
I mentioned in a previous episode, that the analytical brain is wired to answer every question asked. Every question you ask yourself or someone asks you needs to be answered by the brain. It just has to. It doesn’t have to answer immediately. There can be a delay to the answer but at some point, it needs to answer the question.
That explains why this question doesn’t go away anymore. It cannot stay unanswered.
Of course, you can come up with answers that keep it quiet for a while like: I am who I am. Live with it. Or I am this person and I live this life. But these empty answers didn’t work for me and I guess it won’t work for you either – otherwise, you would not be here.
Now looking back at my old self, I understand now what I was asked with this question. I was asked to decide who I wanted to be. I was asked to step into my power to create the person that I truly want to be. And so are you!
You see, we can live our lives pretty much on autopilot. By the time we are 35 years old, 95% of who we are is run by automated programming from our subconscious mind. We don’t make daily conscious decisions anymore, the programs that we created over the length of our lives are running the show now.
And that’s who we are. But not by conscious choice anymore but through the mix of our upbringing, life experiences and lessons. And sure we make a lot of choices every single day, well that’s how it seems, but do we ever stop and consciously choose who we want to be?
If you don’t wake up from this dream called your life, chances are that it will just keep going as it is now. Running on autopilot, creating the future based on what happened in the past. And lots of people stay asleep and never wake up.
But not you. Either you started to awaken already or you are now by reading this. And by asking yourself the question: Who am I? Or What is my purpose? A higher intelligence is helping you to wake up and make your own choice.
The thing is that you can be whoever you want to be – but it needs your conscious choice. So truly the answer to the question: Who am I? Is not your name, your role in your family or your job title. The answer is: that I can make a choice who I want to be.
If you are happy with everything in your life, you will not ask yourself the question that wakes you up. You would not need to, right? It means there is more for you to experience, create and strive for. You decided to do more with your life than you currently are. And by you, I mean your Higher Self on another dimensional level.
You wake yourself up by asking these deep meaningful questions. When it happens, it’s time to not only live anymore as the current “you” that was formed throughout the length of your life. You are ready to learn how to choose a new identity, a new personality, a new you.
That’s what is so beautiful about it. Yes, it can feel uncomfortable to wake up and ask yourself these powerful questions but now you know why you are doing it. It’s because you are the creator of your life. And when you wake up to this realization, you can become whoever you want to become.
If this resonates with you and you would like to go further, I have a free training coming up beginning of January. A 7-day journey with bite-size lessons each day for you to create a New You.
