My mum told me recently that she was not really aware of all the benefits that meditating regularly can have until she read more about it. And I thought maybe that is how others are feeling, too. That’s why I created this episode all about the good stuff that meditating will give you once you start.

When I started meditating about 2.5 years ago I knew very little about all the different benefits that meditation gives you. And until recently I did not know what you can all create, manifest and experience with a regular meditation practice.
I started meditating probably for similar reasons as most people which are to relax, recover and restore. I was looking for something to fill up my batteries again which were pretty depleted most times. That was mostly it.
I wanted to slow down and recover my energy levels. See if meditation can help me be more energized again and feel better overall. And I think these are pretty good reasons to start meditating. These are for sure benefits you get out of it. So great start if this is why you would want to try out meditating. But if you are still not convinced or these benefits are not enough for you to start then keep listening to this episode. I am going to cover a lot of lot more benefits – more than you can imagine.
When I started to meditate I would do it just sporadically. I would maybe do it a few times a week for a few weeks at a time and then stop and restart later. In my experience back then, I felt pretty good during the meditation and briefly afterwards. So it had its benefits for me – but not enough for me to become more serious about it. And I can imagine that is similar for you if you tried it out before but did not really stick with it.
What really helped me a lot is to learn more about meditation in itself. The science of it all. And what happens inside of us when we meditate. I have spoken about Dr Joe Dispenza many times before. He is teaching the biology, neuroscience and a lot of other areas of sciences that play a role in this work. He teaches all you need to know about what happens while you meditate. And then you practise it during the meditations. (check out this book to learn more: “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself” by Dr Joe Dispenza)
When you understand how something works, it is so beneficial for your progress. You can apply this knowledge, and you understand the ins and outs of something. And that´s when I started to experience more during my meditations. Which had a direct impact on my time outside of meditations.
“So if you have not yet gotten more benefits out of meditation other than relaxation, then my number 1 tip is to learn more about it. That way you actually know what you are doing.”
The first big benefit I got from starting a more regular meditation practice is the quieting of my mind. During that time I was meditating about 3 times per week. So not every day and I still had great benefits from it. Our mind is of course always on when we are awake. The mind creates a thought every 3 seconds – that’s how active our mind is.
And generally, that is not a bad thing when these are useful thoughts and positive thoughts. But they were not anymore for me. When I was not concentrating on work or a particular activity my mind chatter was not very positive. Quite a lot of negative self-talk. A lot of ruminating about past events or scenario building of future events.
I’ve spoken about this in previous episodes about how important it is to be able to manage or even better master your mind. Meditating made that possible for me. I was able to put distance between myself and my thoughts and learned how to observe them. And over time I was able to manage my thoughts more and more which let me have a much quieter mind now with fewer negative or harmful thoughts.
Once you know how calm and quiet it can be in your head, you will understand what a difference it makes in your life. I feel more energized and calmer. I am more relaxed about things happening around me. With a quieter mind, I can take life less seriously and enjoy it more. I would call that a great plus for meditation.
The same benefit I got from meditation for my mind, I can say I got as well for my body. I still have a long way to go in the relationship with my body. But meditating helps the body to be so much more balanced and restored. It is very similar to managing your mind, that meditation gave me the ability to create some distance between myself and my body.
Like the mind is a tool for us to use, the same applies to the body. Especially longer meditations gave me the learnings of overcoming the programming in my body and my subconscious. Our body usually runs on autopilot for most of the day. It knows how to do most things and we don’t have to consciously think about it. But that means it is hard to change a program inside of us, like a habit. Meditation can help you to connect better with the body to make any changes that you would like in your life.
Next to being able to be more connected with my body, there are lots of physical benefits that meditation gives you. I personally experience a better immune system and my nervous system is calmer and stronger through my meditations. My practice helped me to lower my stress levels significantly. Meditation is known to help your body in so many areas, from relieving yourself of pain to actually healing yourself.
Meditation means to become familiar with. Meditating helps you to get to know yourself better which is important and necessary for self-love. It gives you the means to switch off the outside environment and look within yourself. In meditation, you train your focus and your concentration which is like a strengthened muscle that you can then use as well in your work or study.
You are becoming much more self-aware and are able to work through beliefs, feelings and even trauma that you would like to let go of. What I have experienced through being more self-aware and knowing myself better is that I am less impacted by others. And I mean this in a good way. I am much more confident being with myself and don’t need that much approval from anyone else. Still I am interested in people’s opinions, viewpoints or knowledge but I am not bothered anymore by what people think about me.
I have learned to let go of pleasing people more than ever before. And I can let people be who they are more than ever. I don’t need to control anybody and I don’t let anyone control me. But all of this is so peaceful and in a positive flow of being. It has brought me so much more harmony and peace. I know if all humans would meditate more and learn this lighter and more peaceful way of being we would live better together.
I have spoken about this in episode 31 that meditation has helped me to open my heart and to feel love and gratitude from inside of me without any outside influence. Now let’s talk more about gratitude and what it has created for me in my life. I always knew that feeling grateful is amazing and that it is a powerful feeling. But before meditating I have not felt grateful very often.
Now that I am able to connect more with the feeling of gratitude inside of me during my meditations, I can bring more gratitude into my everyday life. I am much more grateful for little things and simple things in my life. For the sun that is warming my skin, for a bird flying to my window and saying hello and for ladybugs appearing in my house telling me how lucky I am.
Gratitude is the ultimate state of receivership. It means that the feeling of gratitude is the most powerful emotion and energy to bring more positivity into your life.
“The more you feel grateful the more you receive in your life that you feel grateful for. Again another benefit of meditating that I think is unbeatable.”
I probably could go on to talk about many more benefits that I received through meditation like manifesting, serendipities that happen in my life, the community with like-minded people and so on and on. I meditate now every day because I know how powerful it is. And every week I experience something new,
I can go deeper and reach new levels of feelings, energy and states of being. I am excited to be on this journey to keep discovering new ways of being, new ways of manifesting what I want from life and new sides of myself, like peeling an onion. Always letting go of something else that does not serve me anymore and getting to know my true self more each day.
And this is not always the easiest of journeys to have but it is so worth it. I put the work and the time into my meditations. And stuff comes up that is not always easy to deal with – but once you deal with it, you can leave it behind.
“It’s like having growth spurts when we were young that could hurt a bit but we knew it would pass and we would be happy to see that we grew again a few centimetres.”
I hope I have inspired you to take the next step of your journey and discover more of yourself and what you can truly do – and get to meditating!
